Hey, you're too shy, don't lie, don't know what to say. And did you let that one get away? I know it gets harder and harder. And you'd rather not bother. So you get higher and higher only to come down. Hey, you're too shy, don't lie, don't know what to say. And did you let that one get away? I know no one seems to get it, and your conscience gets guilty. So you get flat out pissed drunk, only getting sick. Some things shouldn't go on unsaid but some things should go on unsaid. Hey, you're too shy, don't lie, don't know what to say. And did you let that one get away?

Hey, have you seen the end of this long line? I've been on it too long. Is this truly romance or is it just for the moment? Are you true to your word? Are you? Hey, have you seen the light? Caus' I'm sick of the same old story and I'd like it if you would tell me about it. Is this truly romance or is it just for the moment? Are you true to your word? Are you? The ship goes on and passes me by. And it's a cruise ship and slowly.....Ann passes me by. .......every week, every day, every week, every day........ Hey, have you seen it all? Well, tell me about your old heroes, caus' I know they're hard to come by today.* Is this truly romance or is it just for the moment? Are you true to your word? Are you? The ship goes on and passes me by. And it's a cruise ship and slowly.....Ann passes me by. .......every week, every day, every week, every day........ *recently, I've done a new version of the song where that lyric changes to "and I'll tell you about some I found today" rather than "caus' I know they're hard to come by today." I suppose since the original version of the song (despite all of the nastiness in the world), I have since discovered, met and been inspired by some really great folks.

Sometimes I'll be scared of life as it seems And I'll walk with my head lowered in the mist Sometimes I'll be a slave to my vices and fists and I'll stop and get angry about the things that don't mean shit That's why the lion's always chasin me Keeps me moving away from here She keeps me running through the path I see 'til it's all so crystal clear Sometimes I'll let my mind in the gutter and I'll let it float through waves and waves of piss Sometimes I'll be weak and kiss dirty lips and I'll stop and get angry about the things that don't mean shit That's why the lion's always chasin me Keeps me moving away from here She keeps me running through the path I see 'til it's all so crystal clear And only time's end will bring the lion to rest And the path will end will end And only time's end will bring the lion to rest And I'll look back and say thank you my friends

Clockmaker 04:56
There he goes up the hill up the hill to his clocks There he goes up the hill up the hill to wind'em up A hump on his back as he walks with a limp but he carries on up the hill up the hill to his clocks And all of the people want to put him to sleep. They call him names they're all blind as they wish him to sleep There he goes up the hill up the hill to his clocks There he goes up the hill up the hill to wind'em up His face is all wrinkled and his hair is all white as he carries on up the hill up the hill to his clocks And all of the people want to put him to sleep. They call him names they're all blind as they wish him to sleep The hump kept growing 'til his nose touched the ground and the hump turned to feathers as the man grew his wings and he became an angel as the wings grew out and he flew up high into the sky

Gone 04:00
Everywhere I go, I get the wolfen eyes Loneliness grows, the wolf eyes widen Cold hearts rule as the wolf eyes scowl and the Cities are lonely as the escorts thrive Tear the building down it's standing for nothing. I see that you have fallen for it but it should be falling for you.* So much to do and no one to do it with. So much to see, I'll see it alone. Tear the building down it's standing for nothing. I see that you have fallen for it but it should be falling for you.* It's preying on me. It's preying on you. It's preying on lonely me and it's preying on lonely you. It's all standing right before me. It's all as good as gone. *So about 2 years after this song was recorded, 9/11 occurred (where yours truly almost died by the way) and so I was a bit sensitive about playing this song because of this lyric. But to be honest, I wasn't specifically referring to the twin towers or any other known skyscraper. Just using "the building" as a symbol of false, misguided and superficial ambition.

Monsoon 03:45
Everyone knows it's coming in the sleepy mysterious town Some boarding up and hoping for the best The others can't wait to die Monsoon, too guilty to move They could just run right out with nothing to lose Monsoon, too frozen to move Strengthen the mooring, yes strengthen the mooring It's no longer boring around here The anxious ones are staring at the clock that's ticking on the wall. Some skipping town in rain gear clothes, The rest will just stay and wash away. Monsoon, too guilty to move They could just run right out with nothing to lose Monsoon, too frozen to move Strengthen the mooring, yes strengthen the mooring It's no longer boring around here

Old Soldier 04:19
Come on old soldier, let your ugly past go. Erase your evil ego And lean into the rain, Take the long road home and think again. Sit amongst your old familiar friendly ghosts And lean into the rain. Come on old soldier, let your ugly past go. It'll be much easier to jump the fence. If you let it go and leave behind the mess And lean into the rain, Take the long road home and think again. Sit amongst your old familiar friendly ghosts And lean into the rain.

The Fountain 03:13
Could you see me down here from the 99th floor? Tossed coins in the fountain as I wished for something small. Every wish seemed like a good one around the golden ball. But if I could go back in time, I wish you would not fall Despite our torn and broken hearts Our heavy shoes and lost friends As we gather our bearings and heal our wounds From the ashes, we'll rise up again Can you see me down here from the sky up above? Enjoying the serene midwestern air. I think the sunset is a message that you are at peace Like a baby cradled in its mother's arms. Despite our torn and broken hearts Our heavy shoes and lost friends As we gather our bearings and heal our wounds From the ashes, we'll rise up again Rise

Passing by the rivers that once were Now a dry memory Fossils are waiting to be found Because we can find a way The mountains are so beautiful today Majestic scenery The trivial chains will surely fade away Because we can find a way

Tundra 05:45
It will be no longer uncharted As we learn a little bit more We think it's a prefabricated......old myth (tundra) The myth was a miscalculation

about

The Rusty Nails existed in various forms from 1996 until 2008 and produced 5 1/2 albums worth of material. This selection of songs represents a "best of"compilation from those albums. From it's very humble, uncoordinated (a.k.a. my minimalist singing/bagpiping/drumming abilities) yet enthusiastic beginnings through the raucous hard-rocking band-touring years and finishing with a more experimental/ambient undertone, I think these songs do a good job of representing the short history of The Rusty Nails. On a personal note, it also serves as a good symbol of my own development as far as musicianship, songwriting, discovery etc etc via music creation. Anyway, I hope you enjoy it! Cheers!!

His music is an attempt to find deep meaning and truth within a bizarre world ruled by untruth.
